Primary for Obsidian is now publicly available!
For Primary 2.7.0, Primary's highly anticipated renewed version becomes available through the Obsidian Theme store.
The new Primary.
Rewritten from the ground up. Designed to feel familiar, but fresh. Still refined and minimalist, like you know it.
For old users, nice to see you again!
For new users, hello!
You can now download it via the Obsidian Theme Store. (Don’t know how? Scroll down to the How to Install Primary section!)
💛 If you’d like to support its development, consider donating at your own price or monthly at Ko-fi.
Primary now boasts a documentation site, that will always be the most updated place to know about Primary! It currently includes list of features, supported plugins, and guides.
🚧 Caution
As of July 04, 2024, the doc site is under construction. Though all the pages are properly written and proofread, the design is still being tested. It works best in Light Mode for now!
Since you’re subscribed here, you’ll receive direct in your inbox updates to new guides and features (of the theme or the doc site) every time they’re released.
Here are a couple of things in progress: Presets for Style Settings, more font recommendations, customization options like colorful folders, color schemes, and more!

❓ How to Install Primary
In Obsidian, open up Settings and click the Appearance tab.
Inside the Appearance tab, under “Themes”, you’ll find a Manage button. Click on it. This should open up the Community Themes Store.
Inside the Community Themes Store, type Primary on the search bar. Click on the one that says “By Cecilia May”.
Press Install. Primary should be applied after Obsidian downloads it. Once your theme has changed, slose the Community Themes Store.
To ensure a smooth installation, open up the Command Palette (can be activated by using Ctrl/Cmd + P), and search for Reload app without saving. This will refresh Obsidian.
That’s it!
